UK Sport is charged with leading sport in the UK to world-class success.
Primarily this means working with its partner organisations to deliver medals at international sporting competitions, including the Olympic and Paralympic Games.
It was established by a Royal Charter in 1997, and is funded by a mix of Exchequer and Lottery income.
What does UK Sport do?
Delivering World Class Performance
UK Sport targets its resources at those athletes capable of delivering medal winning performance at the highest level of competition.
It also works with providers of athlete support services, such as sports science and medicine, to make sure that talented athletes receive the very best support.
Increasing Worldwide Impact
UK Sport is responsible for developing the UK’s sporting influence internationally through bidding for and hosting major events; ensuring that the UK’s most able administrators have a say in the future direction of sport; and helping to grow sport in developing countries.
Ensuring World Class Standards
UK Sport promotes the highest standards of sporting conduct whilst continuing to lead a world-class anti-doping programme for the UK. It is also responsible for improving the education and promotion of ethically fair and drug-free sport.
