Digital Radio Working Group
The Digital Radio Working Group (DRWG) published on 23rd June, an interim report setting out its proposed vision for a digital radio landscape.
The Group has issued a Press Release.
The Group is welcoming comments from all interested parties about the work of the Group so far, and on the interim report itself. These can be emailed to DRWG@culture.gsi.gov.uk or alternatively write to Digital Radio Working Group, c/o Radio & Media Markets Branch, DCMS, 2-4 Cockspur Street, London SW1Y 5DH.
The Department has held two stakeholders meetings which have given the opportunity for interested parties to hear how the Group is proceeding and about future work. A third stakeholders meeting will take place later this year.
The DRWG was launched on 22 November 2007 to consider the future of digital radio. This independently chaired expert and consumer working group is looking at how to promote digital radio and increase the numbers of people listening to it.
The DRWG, chaired by Barry Cox and made up of key stakeholders, has been tasked with considering:
- What conditions would need to be achieved before digital platforms could become the predominant means of delivering radio?
- What are the current barriers to the growth of digital radio?
- What are the possible remedies to those barriers?
The DRWG is holding meetings throughout the year and is expected to report to the Secretary of State in late 2008. The Group is formed of representatives from DCMS, Ofcom, BERR, DigitalOne, 4 Digital Group, RadioCentre, BBC, Intellect, Arqiva, SMMT, Community Media Association and the Consumer Expert Group. The DRWG set up four sub-groups to consider specific issues in greater detail during its first phase of work leading to the interim report; a list of the groups and their members are as follows:
Technology and Consumer Proposition – chaired by the BBC – members include 4 Digital Group, RadioCentre, Arqiva, CMA and Intellect
