Minister for Sport pleased about the outcome of DCMS's international summit on remote gambling

Minister for Sport, Richard Caborn was pleased about the outcome of DCMS's recent international summit on remote gambling, the Minister said:

"I'm really pleased with the progress made today at the remote gambling summit and I think we now have in place a road map that will lead to better regulated remote gambling across the world. Those present today agreed to co-operate further in a number of key areas to ensure that gambling remains fair, crime free and vulnerable people are protected.

We discussed the text of a draft communiqué in detail. Delegates will now take the draft back to their respective governments and we will seek written confirmation of their agreement over the coming weeks.

The summit also agreed that we will follow this up with proposals for an expert working group, representative of those countries present today. We will want this to involve wider international institutions, including UNESCO and the global financial sector, to advise on the development of worldwide standards for regulation. We hope this group will be able to report back by the middle of next year."
