young people

The Games offer a fantastic opportunity to improve the lives of young people.

They allow us to:

  • promote the Olympic ideals of striving for excellence, doing your best, fair play and cultural understanding
  • encourage positive views of disability
  • improve diversity and community
  • get children and young people involved in sport, and to help them to make healthy living choices
  • engage underachieving and disaffected young people
  • improve the nation's language learning
  • make young people more aware of other countries

The following programmes will deliver this vision:

The Opportunity Inspired by London 2012 scheme is helping disadvantaged young people make a lasting positive change to their lives inspired by the London 2012 Olympic and Paralympic Games. It will reach 500 young people aged 14-25 across the UK by September 2012. The Prince's Trust is leading the scheme, funded by the DCMS and working in partnership with the Home Office's Positive Futures project, managed by Catch22.

The scheme’s Online Hub is available on The Prince’s Trust website. It includes an interactive map showing scheme activity building across the UK in the run-up to London 2012. The Hub will capture news stories and photos documenting the achievements of young people and how they are making a positive impact in their communities.
